Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 2026

Kinpanion ("we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting the privacy of the families we serve and the parents our system watches over. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, where it is stored, how long we keep it, and the choices you have. We operate under Canada's federal private-sector privacy law, PIPEDA. We do not claim certifications or compliance we have not earned.

What we collect

Through this website. When you use the contact form, we collect what you provide — typically your name, email address, an optional phone number, and a short description of your situation — so we can respond and help you get set up.

Through the Kinpanion service.

What we show — and what the camera captures

The Kinpanion app shows caregivers a privacy-safe stick-figure rendering of detected events — never a live video feed and never a face. We do not give anyone a window into your parent's home to watch.

To detect events like falls and exits, the camera system does capture images, processed by our camera-analytics provider — for example, a one-time room calibration image when the camera is set up, and brief images analyzed at the moment an event is detected. These are used only to operate the service, under contract; they are not shown to you as video.

Our basis for collecting this information

We collect and use personal information with your consent. Because some of what Kinpanion handles is sensitive health-related information, we ask for your express consent to collect and use it for monitoring and alerting, and you can withdraw that consent at any time by closing your account. We do not use this information for advertising, and we do not sell it.

How we use information

We use the information you submit to respond to your inquiry and set up your service. We use service data to detect and alert on safety events, to show activity and wellness trends to the family, and to operate, secure, and support the service.

Who we share information with

We share information only with the service providers that help us operate Kinpanion — for example, our cloud hosting and database provider, our payment processor, our email provider, and our camera-analytics and sensor providers. They may use the information only to provide their service to us, under contract. We do not share information for advertising or marketing. A current list of our service providers is available on request at privacy@kinpanion.com.

Where your information is stored

Kinpanion's app and database are hosted in the United States. If you are in Canada, your personal information — including health-related information such as activity signals, vital signs, and safety events — is stored and processed in the United States by the service providers that operate Kinpanion. While it is there, it is subject to US law, including lawful access requests by US authorities. We remain accountable for protecting your information under PIPEDA wherever it is processed, and we require our providers to safeguard it. We tell you this so you can make an informed choice before you sign up.

How long we keep your information

We keep your personal information only as long as we need it to provide the service and meet our legal obligations. When you delete your account, we begin removing your associated data after a short grace period (currently 30 days), after which derived health and activity data is purged from our active systems. Leased devices are reclaimed and factory-wiped on cancellation, and the health data derived from them is purged.

Your rights and choices

You may access, correct, export, or delete your personal information. You can export or delete your account and its data from within the app at any time; deleting your account begins the removal described above. For any other privacy request, contact us at privacy@kinpanion.com and we will respond as required under PIPEDA (generally within 30 days).

Children

Kinpanion services are designed for older adults and their families. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date above reflects the most recent revision. We will communicate material changes to active customers.
